Malting Barley

Barley is a core pillar of our business. Our recent investment in grain handling facilities allows us to intake, dry and store in excess of 50,000 tonnes of barley. Over 90% of this is malting barley serving both the brewing and distilling industries.

The quality and expertise of our staff, systems and facilities have ensured the consistency of supply to our customers many of whom are world leading global companies such as Diageo, Irish Distillers and Heineken to name but a few. Meeting the exacting specifications laid down by brewing and distilling customers is critical to the business. Our range of intake drying and storage facilities allows us to manage a range of grain varieties and volumes.

Intake

Our site in Kilkenny is the primary intake location for the 50,000 tonnes of grain dried every year. Once on site our traffic management system ensures an efficient weigh-in through weighbridge 1 and then onto our sampling station. Our onsite lab facilities ensure accurate measurement and testing of incoming grain and in process sampling throughout the drying process. Following successful sampling incoming grain is routed to one of four intakes.

Drying

We have five dryers on site offering a range of capacities and throughputs. These dryers, which run on natural gas ensure that incoming barley is dried quickly and routed to one of the many storage options on site.

Storage

Daltons have invested in storage facilities. With a capacity in excess of 50,000 tonnes, we can store grain until it is required by the customer. We are TASCC certified.

  • Our storage is built and maintained to the standards required for long term grain storage.
  • We have a range of segregated storage capacities from 2000 tonnes to 9000 tonnes.
  • Stored grain is continually monitored to ensure it is maintained in good condition ready for malting.

Transport

Our fleet is TASCC certified and provides a regular delivery service to our customers.
